Amazing win by Azahara Muñoz at the Spanish Ladies Open

The Cup stays home again. Azahara Muñoz conquers the Andalusia Costa del Sol Open de España in his home in Guadalmina, with his people, displaying a brilliant game. According to the words of his coach, Marcelo Prieto, “is the best version that I had seen Azahara and that is why we should not be surprised if we soon see her again in the Top 20 world.

The joy on Sunday was immense; fans, friends, family, club workers, organization, including the Ladies European Tour, aware of the physical problems (wrist injury and “appendicitis”) and confidence problems (change of coach) of the sampedreña during this year. All were excited. Even his rivals.

We had read in an interview something like: "Dad, everyone thinks I'm going to win, but If I do not win ...". Won! With a final round of 3 under Azahara ended up prevailing on Ciganda and Pace with 2 strokes of advantage.

Thank all club members for the involvement during the tournament, whether volunteers or spectators, the understanding they have had during these past weeks, when, from one day to the next, we were forced to close the course to perform maintenance. To all the workers, who have had to multiply to try to reach everything, to Deporte & Business, organizers of the event, especially Iñigo and Alicia for their impeccable management and great human treatment. To the Ladies European Tour for trusting us, all the spectators that from Thursday has been visiting us, and of course, to all the institutions and companies that without them it would not have been possible to carry out this tournament: RFEG and RFGA, Turismo de Andalusia, Tourism Costa del Sol, Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa Del Sol, Reale Seguros, Consejo Superior de Deportes, Ayuntamiento de Marbella, Ayuntamiento de San Pedro Alcántara.

Special mention too deserves the great tournament of the other local player, Noemí Jiménez (21st). Bravo!

We will never forgot this magic week.

Congrats Aza, so proud of you!

Leadearboard and tee times, below.

Course record for Azahara! Beautiful 2nd round.

Shortly after the sun came up, Azahara Muñoz began her walk in this second round on the beautiful 10th hole, ready to attack soon and recover positions. As the day passed, Aza was finding herself more and more comfortable, a birdie here, another there, even some failed putt as well. And then it came an incredible waterfall of birdies on the back nine (6 in 7 holes) and direct to the head. Round of 64 (-8) and course record.

The incredible show didn't stop here, her friend Carlota is still on the top after card 67 today. Both share the 2nd place and they will be in the last game, next to the young Englishwoman Georgia Hall. A spectacular Saturday awaits us.

As for the rest of our players, Noemi Jimenez suffered a little more in the afternoon (PAR) but managed to overcome the cut without too many difficulties (T-26). Laura Cabanillas did not have a good day today and stayed out of cut.

Tee times for tomorrow and leaderboard, below.

See you tomorrow!

pd: thank you to all the volunteers, without them nothing would be possible.

Guadalmina wins 4th year in a row the Anadalusian Interclubs Infantil & Cadete

With a record of 6 teams registered (24 children), we went to Lauro Golf this weekend to try to defend the title of the last 3 years. Thanks to good rounds in the foursomes of the first day, our club occupied the first 3 places of the classification. We knew that it was going to be difficult to maintain the high level of play and it happened: in the whatsapp group that was created between parents, and captains, they began to announce many bogeys and for a while things did not gone anything well and the guys from La Cañada and Los Arqueros were delivering very low rounds.

In the end our boys managed the pressure as champions and ended up with 3 teams in the Top5 and the title for the 4th consecutive year. Thanks to the support of all the parents who have come to Lauro, the captains of the teams and our director of the academy Castor Gomez, who besides supporting his team, was on the driving range from the first moment helping and encouraging all the students!

Congratulations to the 24 children and our champion team:

Alvaro Mueller-Baumgart

Alejandro Chacón

Alejandra Sánchez de la Fuente

Michael Stanik

and his captain Juan Chacón

In addition, Alejandro and Álvaro achieved the best foursome round.

Guys, you are awesome!

Angel Hidalgo keep growing

A homing pigeon sent a few weeks ago to the marbellí Angel Hidalgo an invitation to contest in Jerez (Xerry Golf) one of the tournaments of the professional national tour Gambito Pro Tour.

Remember that Angel still has a few years of amateur (plans to study in a US university) but it is important to be measured with the pros in order to take habits and experience to face the leap to professionalism.

The best way to get well prepared to the professional tour is this. Take you very seriously your last stage of amateur, competing with them and like them.  Just that is what they started to do from the RFEG and the RFGA with Mario Galiano and Ivan Cantero (2 of the firm promises of Spanish golf) about 2 years ago, when they began to invite them to several tournaments in Spain and abroad, normally belonging Alps and Challenge Tour. Or with the Catalan Adrià Arnaus recently.

Well, it seems that now in the sights is Angel Hidalgo and they don't think to leave him alone in his last years as an amateur. The plan is clear; get the maximum number of invitations so that our young promise gets accustomed to what seems to be will be his home for many years: the professional tours.

At the moment, in his first professional experience takes beautiful moments and the certainty of knowing that his game is in shape: 3 rounds under par to finish 6th. Awesome.

Next stop, Burgos. Angel will be in the XXX PGA Championship this week from Thursday at Golf Riocerezo.

Good luck, champion!

We take the opportunity to congratulate Álvaro Mueller-Baugmart, also a member of the club, for his great performance (13th) at the U18 Spanish International at Lauro Golf. It should be noted that Alvaro is still 15 years old and almost all the boys were close to 18.

Guadalmina hosts an special Pequecircuito

More than 70 new and not-so-new Andalusian golf talent gathered in our P & P course last Sunday.

The spectacular atmosphere was undoubtedly the great protagonist of the day, full of smiles and joy of the little ones, who once again gave us a lesson in sportsmanship and fellowship.

On the other hand, it is noteworthy that we achieved the highest participation (7) in a long time, thanks to the work of teachers and our dear Fernando Ramirez, who week after week encourage and inculcate values to our children.

In addition, 4 of them were awarded; 3rd place for Javier Rodríguez del Molino in special category, 3rd in Alevines for his sister Julieta, 3º Jaime Macias (benjamines <8 years) and 4ª Anna Maguire (benjamines <8 years).

How great you all are!

Thanks to the Royal Andalusia Federation for relying on our Club once again and its Children's Committee and Patricia Jiménez for their impeccable organization.

2nd place at Spanish Clubs Championship Under 14

Once again, our little gladiators have returned to leave their skin for their club and, after 2 days full of good play and exemplary behavior, they have achieved the runner-up at Guadalhorce Golf Club (Málaga).

The team made up of Rebeca Fernández, Alejandra Sánchez de la Fuente, Mateo Ruiz, Alejandro Chacón, led by Pablo Mansilla and assisted by our professional Salvador Ruiz, has been on the podium for the seventh time since 2006, thanks, above all, to shot under 80 in 7 of 8 cards. We knew that reaching the spectacular team of Costa Azahar was going to be really complicated, but our players still did not stop trying until the end.

Congratulations to the 6, we are very proud of you. Thank you for taking the name of Guadalmina with such elegance.
